harnez P13,850 commits610 closed114 studies
Period: 2026-10-22 13:37 (commit 25ef1e46) to 2026-10-25 ~15:00. Measurement cutoff: f2b51d71 (the story commit itself and later doc commits are excluded). - Previous story: 2026-10-22-generic-init-repo-yaml-story.md (per-repo .harnez/repo.yaml , tracker gating; parked 855 init wizard and 857 external issue providers). - Scope: everything since then, across several host sessions. Sub-studies summarized here: host two days , usage never hangs , test suite sprint , epic 894 vendor-mixed , epic 910 , P1/P2 sweep , epics 910/911 retro , epic 921 server monitor . - Goal of the period (implicit, from the tickets): move from single lean sprints to epics, make harnez usage reliable and fast, let the server own remote monitoring, and turn the sprint practice into reusable skills. - Review: written by Claude Opus; reviewed read-only by sol:med (second vendor, reviewer rstory ). Its nine findings were all accepted: two false deliveries (560, 895), ticket counts, 14 missing tickets, overstated verification, five omitted failures, 884's partial delivery, compatibility, churn labels, and unsupported velocity comparisons.

harnez.org P1123 commits17 closed2 studies
Harnez.org is the public-facing home for a developer's agentic coding harness: a set of tools and repeatable workflows for working across repositories with coding agents. The site had a discovery problem. Its navigation promised visitors places to find tools, skills, and commands, while the catalog did not yet give those categories a useful, browsable inventory. The work recorded in September 2026 turned that gap into a concrete static website feature.

Second-Vendor Reviews : > - Audited by claude:sonnet:med (session story-reviewer-sonnet ): Approved with corrections . Clarified test counts (19 tests across test_lifecycle.py and test_scan.py ; 14 tests in test_scan.py ), replaced mixed metric figures with explicit insertion/deletion breakdowns, corrected snapdex DisallowUnknownFields location ( client.go:128 ), sourced the first-probe 502 race condition to developer rollout telemetry, grounded Section 6 turn and token numbers to sprint study data, and documented that Issue #222 per-pass latency was an architectural estimate.

neus P1458 commits70 closed33 studies
Neus began as a practical search tool: help an agent find the right passage in a large repository when the query and the code use different words. It combines ordinary keyword retrieval with vector similarity, then groups results by file. Over a short, unusually active stretch, the project expanded that local-first idea into a second capability: making small, bounded decisions from free-form text, such as mapping an informal role description to one of a few declared labels.

ubunatic.com P1678 commits47 closed40 studies
At first glance, ubunatic.com is a personal website. Its repository does more than hold pages: it publishes project sites, hosts Go vanity import paths, keeps static data visualizations current, and ships the checked-out revision to a self-hosted webroot. The constraint is deliberate: pages are served as-is, with no site build step, framework, or external CDN dependency. That simplicity moves complexity into small maintenance tools and clear publishing checks.

voxi P1704 commits97 closed16 studies
Voxi started with a practical desktop problem: speaking a sentence is often easier than typing it, but dictation should feel immediate and should not send private audio to a cloud service by default. Voxi is a standalone Go application for Linux desktops. It captures microphone audio, recognizes speech locally, and types the result into the focused window. On Wayland, it uses dotool for keystrokes; an optional privileged helper observes physical modifier keys through Linux evdev so injected text does not accidentally act like a Ctrl, Alt, or Super shortcut. A systemd user service coordinates recording and other long-lived work, and a GNOME Shell extension offers desktop controls.

cati P1594 commits63 closed8 studies
An image in a terminal sounds like a small trick: sample colors, pick a block character, print ANSI escape codes. Cati began with that premise, but the hard part is preserving what matters in an image while obeying the geometry and limits of a text grid. A terminal cell can encode two vertical pixel rows with a half-block glyph and two colors. Cati builds on that idea with quadrant and sextant blocks, sparkline glyphs, and combinations of render modes. It also provides a player and a directory browser, while exposing the renderer as a Go library.

The only earlier study is the topic study prior-art-self-replication.md , written in this session. - Starting state: a one-function library ( Version() ), placeholder make container-test , nothing pushed. Epic 001 (8 tasks) and research ticket 002 were filed right after the baseline ( 9edeb2e ). - Goal: owner set /goal complete the epic or exit if have blockers or end in an agentic deadloop . - Review: second-vendor review by gpt-6.1-sol (codex:sol:high, read-only). Four accounting findings fixed: ticket baseline, commit categories, count of corrective releases, and the statistics cutoff. It found no issues with the verdicts or the post-mortem.

goto P245 commits6 closed1 study
Most people already have several ways to jump between directories: shell history, project checkouts, bookmarks, desktop mounts, and network shares. The friction is remembering which tool handles each location. goto is being shaped as one small Go command that accepts an entity and resolves it to a directory. Existing programs such as zoxide, ghq, udisks, sshfs, and gio are intended to do the specialized work; goto coordinates them rather than replacing their engines.

loom P11,968 commits341 closed50 studies
Loom is a Go library for building terminal interfaces from reusable widgets. It began as shared UI code extracted from the uzu project; its purpose now is to let independent command line tools reuse the same input, layout, rendering and interaction behavior. The interface runs inline in the current terminal instead of taking over the full screen. That makes terminal restoration and careful cursor behavior part of the product, alongside familiar widgets such as tables and text inputs.

psync P243 commits3 closed2 studies
sync(1) is one of those commands whose silence is easy to mistake for a hang. It waits for dirty data in the Linux kernel's page cache to reach storage, but gives the person at the terminal no estimate of progress or throughput. psync wraps that operation with a live view: it samples the kernel's dirty and writeback counters while sync runs, then prints a summary. It also has a watch mode for observing writeback without initiating sync, and a follow mode that resyncs a scoped set of files after changes.

emojig P2448 commits8 closed1 study
An emoji picker sounds like a small interface problem: show a grid, let someone search, copy a character. On Linux, the details quickly multiply. The same picker should fit into an existing terminal session or appear as a desktop popup; render wide emoji consistently; leave raw terminal settings intact after a crash; and work across terminals with different window and font behavior. Emojig takes that on as a standalone Linux utility, without a background daemon.

headbox P210 commits2 closed1 study
The ubunatic.com site checks ran a Flatpak Chromium. On 2026-10-22 its sandbox /tmp , which lives in RAM under /run/user/1000 , held 2.4 GB of old browser profiles and filled the runtime dir; an unrelated tool then failed with "no space left on device". Killing the wrapper did not stop the browser: twelve headless Chromiums started by coding agents were still running, some for a day. Every agent that started a browser and was then killed left one behind.

uman P2179 commits9 closed2 studies
Most developers accumulate projects faster than they accumulate good ways to look after them. A workspace with dozens of independent Git repositories turns small chores into repeated work: checking which branches are ahead, deciding what is safe to push, keeping local tools consistent, and copying project sites into one public home. uman is a Go command line tool for making those chores visible and repeatable across a directory of projects.

kernel P251 commits11 closed1 study
This repository tackles a laptop problem: waking from suspend-to-idle could pause for about ten seconds. The investigation traced the delay to an AMD Platform Management Controller (PMC) quirk missing from the kernel’s DMI table for one machine variant. The project added the quirk to an out-of-tree driver build and wrapped its maintenance in kpatch , a Go command-line tool.

books P157 commits2 closed1 study
Agentic software development is difficult to explain as a list of model features. The useful questions are practical: how does work survive when a session ends, how can parallel agents avoid collisions, and what happens when a green test suite misses a real workflow failure? The Ubunatic Books repository turns those questions into a local-first library of chapters, examples, and working reference material.

loom-games P2373 commits44 closed8 studies
Loom Games started with a small ambition: make a Snake game that feels at home in a modern terminal. Its early work separated game rules from screen drawing, described the interface in ANSI mockups, and put tunable values in an embedded YAML specification. That foundation made a useful test bed for a larger question: how far could terminal rendering go?

mdview P321 commits1 closed1 study
Most software projects already have useful documentation. The friction is getting from a file in a checkout to a readable view: a browser-based book needs navigation, diagrams should work offline, and opening a full browser is overkill when you just want to inspect one page. mdview tackles that small, common gap with a Go command line tool that can render one Markdown file in a terminal or HTML, or build a navigable local book from a project’s Markdown.

proctop P323 commits0 closed1 study
A process monitor usually answers one narrow question: what is using resources right now? proctop was built to answer a more useful debugging question: how did one application and all of its child processes behave over time? It watches CPU and memory for a process tree, then presents the measurements as a terminal graph or a stream that another tool can consume.

research P323 commits2 closed1 study
Research often advances by finding a clean way to measure a difficult object. This repository began exploring whether graphical boundaries and discrete invariants could help reason about major mathematics problems. Its working method pairs written proof obligations with small programs: computations can check finite examples or uncover counterexamples, while general claims still need proofs that cover every object in scope.

settings P252 commits9 closed1 study
The first job for settings was deliberately narrow: let someone change the font size in the foot terminal emulator without hand-editing its INI file. That small goal exposed a broader problem. A tool's settings are spread across formats, keys, defaults and user-specific files; building a separate editor for every option would quickly become hard to maintain.

spriteview P2125 commits4 closed3 studies
SpriteView is a small Linux desktop image viewer for pixel artists and developers. The problem it takes on is practical: inspecting sprite sheets and image sequences needs more than opening a file. People need crisp zoom, frame playback, pixel-color inspection, and a way to crop without losing track of which source pixels they selected. SpriteView combines those tasks in a GTK4 application that can also be launched from the terminal or GNOME Files.

trafficsim P276 commits0 closed7 studies
Urban traffic is easy to sketch and hard to simulate credibly. A line of cars following a leader is only one part of the problem. Intersections add signals, turning paths, yielding, limited storage, and vehicles that can block one another. This project models those interactions in a 2D browser application, with scenarios for signalized crossings and the Dresden Carolabrücke corridor. Its goal is to let people inspect traffic behavior and compare corridor designs. The repository is clear that this is an engineering model, not a field-calibrated predictor.

goha Fork/other11 commits0 closed1 study
Goha is a workbench for letting a coding agent operate on a developer’s local project while keeping its actions visible. It combines a command line program with an embedded browser interface. A user can register a project, follow an agent run, approve proposed commands, inspect durable session history, and use a real terminal. The project favors local operation: its demo binds to loopback and its web assets are embedded instead of fetched from a content network.

tilix Fork/other3,326 commits0 closed2 studies
Tilix is a tiling terminal emulator for Linux. It lets people arrange multiple VTE terminal sessions in split panes, move them between windows, save layouts, and tailor profiles. Its rendering stack combines GTK 3, GtkD, VTE, Cairo, and Pixman. The recent work began with a practical question: could the terminal feel smoother on a large 4K display, and could a rendering-path preference meaningfully improve it?

vimconf P343 commits0 closed1 study
Neovim gives its users a lot of control, but a working setup often grows across several Lua files: editor options, plugin declarations, keymaps, and language server settings. Reproducing that setup on another machine means remembering which files belong together, which tools must be installed, and which local edits are safe to keep. vimconf makes that setup declarative. A user edits a YAML file and runs a Go command to generate or update the corresponding Lua configuration.

zterm Fork/other4 commits0 closed1 study
A terminal emulator has to do two jobs at once. It interprets a stream of terminal control sequences and it presents the resulting grid through a window system. Those concerns are often intertwined, which makes a second display backend a substantial rewrite. zterm takes a different route: it is a small terminal emulator in Zig whose terminal model and input encoding are separated from its X11 display implementation.
